(The eElder Scrolls Online)

Will this be possible? I'd like to run the game using the Steam community client, for sharing media, etc.

EDIT 3/25/15: I am running the game through my Steam client and have access to Steam broadcasting, etc. The way to do this is by purchasing a second copy of ESO on Steam, opening ESO in your Steam library, then logging in with your original account information on the ESO launcher.

I tried and it doesn't work. I'm pretty sure we would need to buy a new copy from Steam, but I don't know if we can link our existing ESO account if we do that.

The alternative is to add "non-Steam" game to library, but this doesn't track your playtime, doesn't allow you to share media on the Community page, earn steam trading cards, etc.

EVE/FFXIV/FFXI/TSW/GW and a few others all have prices.

Unless the company gives you a steam code for the product, you will not be able to activate it on your account.

F2P games are not an issue.

Greetings, all. If you already own ESO, you can add it to your Steam library as a Non-Steam Game. To do this, players should go to the "Games" option within Steam and select "Add Non-Steam Game to My Library." Players should then select the checkbox next to "The Elder Scrolls Online" and click "Add Selected Programs."

Can you clarify, if I purchase a new Steam key from the store page on Steam, will I be able to add this as a "Steam game" to my library and still connect it with my existing ESO account?

It's on sale now for $29.99 which comes with 30 days playing time. If that is the only way to add it to my Steam library and participate in the Steam community features, I'd be willing to purchase it again, as long as I know I will be able to link it to my existing account and add the 30 days playing time.

ZOS_JordanH

Hey, @IcyDeadPeople‌. No, if you were to purchase the game again through Steam, you would not be able to apply the key to your existing account.

I see, thanks very much for looking into this for us. Sorry to ask again for further clarification; however, does this mean if I were to purchase a second copy on Steam, I would not be able to use the Steam library to open the ESO launcher and log on to my existing account?

Or would it be possible to purchase a new copy on Steam, add it to our Steam library and log in with our existing ESO account, just keeping in mind we don't get the 30 days free game time or vanity pets, etc?

It works like most other games. As long as the account is valid, it will work. It isn't the account that's different, it's simply the link to the steam with the game folders and overlays.

The reason you can't do it with your existing copy is because it would also require a new redeemable code to add it to your Steam library and Steam directory install path

This really pisses me off. Every other game I've ever played that went to steam gave its early adopters steam keys. Sure we can add it to non-steam games but then we don't get the overlay+friends list/chat which I use quite a bit. Also their Imperial edition is getting an extra pet.

Sure glad I pre-ordered -_-

On a related note, if I purchase the Imperial edition upgrade/DLC from Steam, can I redeem it/activate it on my Bethesda account and get the fancy vanity pet?

So wait, if I currently own a copy of the game and I purchase a copy from Steam, I have to create a new ESO acct and pay ANOTHER 15.00 a month for the Steam account to have access? It doesn't seem there is any way to link that license with my current account unless I am missing something.

If you add it to steam as a non-steam game the overlay and all other steam features will work so long as you dont run ESO as ADMIN, or at least that is my experience.

To our wonderful forum reps: Other vendors with other game titles have been able to provide ways for games to be fully integrated with steam in the past.

I can understand there may be technical issues I am not aware of that can make this difficult or impossible.

If you are able can you please pass feedback up the chain of command that the ability to import existing accounts into steam would make many, many, many players very happy.

Purchased Steam versions of ESO show up in your Steam library. When you click "Play" within Steam, it will open the regular ESO launcher to start the game. A new copy of the game purchased through Steam cannot be linked to a pre-existing ESO account.

As stated earlier in the thread, you can add your current version of ESO (attached to your current account) to your Steam library as a Non-Steam Game. When you click "Play" within Steam, the ESO launcher will then open, just as above.

Or would it be possible to purchase a new copy on Steam, add it to our Steam library and log in with our existing ESO account, just keeping in mind we don't get the 30 days free game time or vanity pets, etc?

Again, if you were to purchase a new copy of the game through Steam, you would not be able to use a pre-existing account with that copy. You would need to create a new, separate ESO account.

We hope this clears up some of the confusion!

What is the reason for this? I own several games on Steam and would like for my ESO copy to be a Steam game as well. Why do I have to start over?

@IcyDeadPeople‌ No worries. Always happy to provide clarification!:

Can you please clarify:
Do you mean that the 30 day KEY can't use used with the current account? Disregarding the 30 day key, running the purchased ESO game on Steam should let you login with your old account though as Steam launches the ESO launcher and you login in the actual game, right? There is no "automatic Steam login" or anything? You can login with any existing account?

I know this game receives a lot of flack but this is the first time I've ever been incredibly annoyed with it. For those of us who would like the Steam overlay, achievement tracking, friend list, trading cards, etc, we're out of luck. Not to mention the one time there is a decent pet available we would have to purchase and entirely new version and create a new account for an animal that would be bound to it.

If this doesn't get figured out, it really does make me hope the game goes free to play or continues to receive negative reviews. It's completely understandable that pre-existing players feel frustrated with that decision.

@ZOS_JordanH I have a pre-order copy and have had no problems prior to the game being available on Steam. Now I can no longer launch the game unless I have Steam running. The Launcher comes up but when I hit PLAY the game no longer launches. The ONLY way I can launch the game now is by starting Steam first then selecting PLAY from the Launcher.

Update: Now even having Steam running in the background doesn't allow me to launch the game executable.

Has this issue been reported?

Do you guys understand how bad the decision to operate this way is? And if so, why have you not acknowledged publicly that it is bad?

You need to make a statement on this. No more "THIS IS HOW IT IS."

We want to know WHY It is this way, and what you are doing about it. Even if you are making no alteration to how the system works, you need to explain to your playerbase WHY you make the decisions you make, especially when they make so many of us angry.

Transparency is the only business model that will earn you loyal customers in the long run. You don't have to acquiesce to demands from your playerbase, but you sure as HELL have to EXPLAIN YOUR DECISIONS TO THEM SO THEY MAKE SENSE.

Will I, if I link my current ESO account, need to buy content straight from Steam afterwards (i. e. expansions, crowns, etc.) or will I still be able to buy stuff via ESO Store on the official website?

You cant. Only way is to buy the game on Steam, and transfer all the stuff you have. All DLC's, Morrowind and crownstore stuff has to be rebought in the steam-version.

Linking your existing ESO account to Steam would mean that all account management is done through Steam so buying crowns and ESO plus are handle through Steam.

You have to buy the steam version base game, however you dont need to rebuy anything else you already have, you just buy and download the steam version and log in on your pre existing account, also DLC aren't sold through steam, crowns are though. I dont know about buying from the ESOStore though.

All you have to do is buy another account. So wait till it's dirt cheap pick it up then login with a pre-existing account. Once that is done it will unlock all the DLCs you have access to.

Okay, what's the catch? Has anyone done it?

Will I, if I link my current ESO account, need to buy content straight from Steam afterwards (i. e. expansions, crowns, etc.) or will I still be able to buy stuff via ESO Store on the official website?

Yes, I've done it.

Linking with Steam is as simple as owning a Steam version of the base game and logging in once. When you log in from Steam, it will ask you for your ESO account info. As soon as you enter your info, your accounts will be linked and you can from that point on use the Steam version or the ESO launcher from the website.

You do not have to rebuy anything. In the past you did have to but they are now a single account. One Tamriel, One Account, and you can buy crowns or content from EITHER location freely. I actually purchased several DLCs and Morrowing through Steam while picking up the recent DLCs from the ESO website.

Steam:

ESO Plus
Steam

Steam?

ESO» (I have an existing PC/Mac Elder Scrolls Online account),
